Steps and a Window

These three were all in Covington, GA, but not all at the same place. The steps’ images are both of the same building, but the other one is different. I loved the light on these reddish steps and was lucky to be there at that time. Really nice, IMO. The other image turned out better than I expected, as the light was pretty mediocre. The window was very dirty, like the building has been vacant for many years. The paper is behind the window. I had to straighten in up and remove my legs from the fuzzy reflection and brighten […]

Hang Tag

I think I’m in love with this image. I know it’s just a mundane photo of a commercial electrical box’s security tag. But it’s sharp with a great shallow DOF. The B&W tones are wonderful. The lighting is nice. The background nicely dark. The stupid tag was blowing around in the wind and I’m actually surprised it was as sharp as it was. Taken on digital with my E-M1.2 with the always stellar 12-40/2.8 wide open. I also took this one about 2 feet from the black-and-white photo. It’s nice, but the background is pretty messy and I don’t like

One More GA Infrared

I posted most of my favorites…..then saw this one which I had selected for posting, but forgot. I think it is good enough to be on it’s own, envisioned as a panorama when I took it. AND these are the three favorite Infrared shots from this session

Georgia Infrared 2

This is the second part of the in-the-hay-field shot that I did with the E-M5.1 Infrared camera. In case you didn’t read the previous post, this is a 590nm converted camera where I’m using a 720nm R72 almost black filter. Shot this one right into the sun white it was a little hidden by the clouds. Love the sky and the altocumulus clouds. I wondered down by the fence and got a trio of great shots right after this one I like the symmetrical nature of this one. Not sure I’m happy with the fuzzy edges however. I probably didn’t

Georgia Infrared

I am at my family home in Covington Ga and they had just rolled up the hay into those giant, picturesque round bales. I thought that there has got to be a bunch of photos. I went to the field at around 10:00-11:00 and the light was just not low enough. So I promised myself to g back the next day and try when the sun was peaking over the trees, which is around 9:00 in GA, which is at the western end of the Eastern Timezone. It was wet from the morning dew, but I decided to just get

Red Broom

In Summit, NJ I found this interesting red broom behind a business on Springfield Ave in downtown. I thought that it was interesting with the color of the bristles, but it needed a different perspective. So instead of the normal 12-40/2.8 lens (a 24mm FF FOV lens), I put on the 7.5mm Laowa super-wide, which is like a 15mm. The 7.5mm lens is odd and I don’t know whether it is my copy or the lens itself. I bought it used and when I first made shots on my Olympus m43 E-M1 Mk2, I tried to use it like a

Lone weed

Again in Morris Plains, NJ. A lone weed growing over a guardrail next to a parking lot. Not winning any competitions, but I liked the minimalistic composition. I tried a black-and-white version, but I thought the subtle blue-gray of the guardrail and the green plant added something to me.

Meters in panorama

Not super photogenic, but I liked the scene taken in the panoramic format. This was taken with the Noblex 135U film panoramic, swing-lens camera on Portra160. Another of my random photos of the back of urban NJ businesses. I liked the yellow pole in the middle bifurcating the scene. I with that there was nothing on the right side, but that’s what was there and I not into making up backgrounds by wholesale Photoshop tools, so this is what I got.

Yale Bricks & Railing

Walking around Yale University for the New Haven Road Race I happened upon this little stairway down to a basement on a random Yale building. It was a little dull, but I bumped up the saturation a little to bring out the colors, especially the green splotches, which are probably algae. This is, as usual, taken with my Olympus E-M1 mk2 with the superb 12-40/2.8 lens. This is really a fabulous lens that is so very versatile. I carry this lens along with a 7.5mm Laowa and possibly a 60 macro of a 40-450/4. But given the 12-40’s great performance

Colored Vents

These two photos are from two different cities, but reflect the commonality of functional architectural details. I assume that these are HVAC vents and these two have very different walls, but similar functions. Just like I like windows and doors and standpipes, I’ll probably start hunting for interesting wall vents going forward. The brown one is from Boston down by the financial district. The green one is from Summit, NJ, if I remember right.

Purple Wall

Walking through the backs of business on the north side of Cranford and for some reason, a bunch of them are painted these wacky colors. On my website is another one that is chartreuse. There is a deep purple store, but this one is a neat shade of lavender.

Whippany Train Station

The Whippany NJ Train station is a train station that is now unused with regular service. The line that used to serve the station was closed a long time ago. But the train station is now a railroad museum with a dozen or two cars, exhibits, etc. I think they also have some steam engine rides from time to time. This is a photo of the train station taken on digital and converted to black and white. I did a bunch of smoothing and massaging to emulate fine-grained film with a little glow, as I remember it.
