Diagonal & Square

I’ve started to find more and more of these scenes where there is a rectangular aspect and a diagonal aspect to scene. Yes, most of them are man-made, but I still like them. The dichotomy of the two angles creates tension, in my opinion. It’s somewhat ordinary, but I’ll be hunting for mor of these in the future. This image was taken of the back of a building in Morris Plains, NJ, which is a sleepy suburban NJ town about 30 miles west of New York City. Of course, I used my favorite Olympus E-M1 mk 2 with the ultra-versatile […]

Chartreuse Wall & Window

Is this a Photoshopped wall? No. Absolution not. Just another super colorful wall in Cranford, NJ. I wonder why someone would paint the back wall of a business this color? The front DOES NOT have this color; only the back does. And it’s at the end of a dead-end alley. It’s not like someone would see the wall. It’s very odd Hot, Hot July, 2023

Abstract – What is it?

I shot this photo in Boston with my iPhone and it really struck me as very cool. I posted the photo and a local group and asked people what it was. Nobody really knew, as it’s completely out of context. See if you can figure out what it is before I put the answer and a contextual shot below This is the place where the shot was taken……….I didn’t include the actual object. Can you guess now? The Photo is of a metal, concrete-filled guard post like the one on the left of the photo. The post that was the

Infrared Bridge

This is the companion to the previous pink image of the fisherman. I said there was a nice bridge, and here it is, but in a more “normal” yellow foliage, yet still infrared. I also masked out the bridge and ground and desaturated it so it looks more natural.

Fishing in Infrared

The Rahway River flows through Cranford NJ and there are a bunch of places in that and surrounding towns to walk by and over the river. Unfortunately, this also means that the houses along the river are prone to flooding, sometimes severe. But for the rest of us, it’s a nice little, meandering park that offers lots of opportunities for photos and contemplation. I found a bridge over the river on the south side of Cranford one day (there will be another photo of that bridge( and walked out to see a gentleman fly fishing in the river. I thought,

Red Train Photos

I found an announcement in August that there was going to be a SteamPunk get-together one Sunday over at the Whippany NJ Train Museum. So I thought, I have some time, let’s go. It was blazing hot, but I thought to get over there by 11, spend an hour or so to get some nice photos and exit. I went. There was no get together, just about a dozen random tourists at the museum So I decided to may my $5.00 and see what was there. It was mildly interesting, but I’m really no train buff (never understood the fascination

Does anyone read this?

I’ve been posting to this blog for about a year. Does anyone actually read or see these photos? Or am I just doing this as a waste of time. Please leave a comment or send me an email if you actually read this. skipwilliams pobox.com with an @ between those words. Nice, minimalistic photo from Williamsburg Brooklyn. I loved the subtle orange color and the textures.

Square – LCA-120, Rolleiflex, and the SWC

I’ve enjoyed the Lomo LC A-120, but I have now discovered something that is an outgrowth of the camera’s design. It’s program seems to prioritize aperture when the light gets low. SO that means that the f/4.5 lens has its most pronounced vignetting and softness as the light falls. As a shooter, if you want sharper photos, you need to use faster film or shoot in lower light. If you shoot with slower film or in lower light, you have to expect that you will get those more dreamy and “flawed” photos. You can see this in the first picture.

Wall Art

More interesting photos from Williamsburg. It’s amazing what you can get from 15 minutes walking around 1-2 blocks in an urban environment.
