Red Broom

In Summit, NJ I found this interesting red broom behind a business on Springfield Ave in downtown. I thought that it was interesting with the color of the bristles, but it needed a different perspective. So instead of the normal 12-40/2.8 lens (a 24mm FF FOV lens), I put on the 7.5mm Laowa super-wide, which is like a 15mm.

The 7.5mm lens is odd and I don’t know whether it is my copy or the lens itself. I bought it used and when I first made shots on my Olympus m43 E-M1 Mk2, I tried to use it like a normal ultra-wide angle where the depth of field is HUGE for such a wide lens. But the images all came out soft, especially Infrared ones. I don’t know whether the lens is faulty, but I’ve just taken to focusing the lens wide open, then stopping down to f/8 or f/11. Below that it’s too soft. I set my E-M1 so that I have a button dedicated to Magnify, so I just press that, focus wide open, cancel the Magnify, then stop it down. It works well enough for me and my results are great at f/5.6 – f/11. F/2 – f/4 is OK, but it’s soft in the corners.
