The Entropy of Pink Icebergs

Are icebergs pink? Well on this decaying wall, yet. Obviouslly this wall needs to be refurbished, as the skimmed concrete is coming off, but the colors really attracted me. I present them here as a series in order of increasing entropy. First it starts with a crack. Then the water obviously gets in. And during the winter, it freezes and calves large sections off. As the process continues, the bolts holding long-gone hardware is exposed, as the previous light-blue layer. The rust starts to take hold and the wall begins it’s start towards a long slow decline and a pile of acclimated rubble on the ground unless arrested.

So it begins with a crack. Then a real iceberg forms.

The underlying colors appear and as the rust takes hold, it expands and actually increases the rate of decay

Thes photos were taken with a Fuji X100VI Digital, the “super snapshot” camera that is all the rage in 2025. Released in Feb 2024 and all but impossible to get during 2024. A lovely camera, not as capable as my 2016-era Olympus E-M1 Mk II in many ways. But the small size, all-in-one design, neat “film simulations”, and high quality make for a great, if super over-priced solution.
